Comforting. Elton John or Billy Joel?
I got to rock out last night!! The Face 2 Face tour was in Tampa so I took my 11 year old son, Wil to see Elton John and Billy Joel. The set list was filled with songs from the 70’s. Elton played Love Lies Bleeding, Madman Across the Water, Rocket Man and Saturday Night’s Alright for Fightin’. Billy Joel came out of the gate with Angry Young Man and I convinced Wil to stay until they played Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. It was a tremendous comfort to be there and share the experience of these verbally rich songs with Wil.
We are all seeking comfort. I don’t know about you but I have turned off the news. I know it’s bad. It keeps getting worse. I have always believed that you can control your choices. I choose to disconnect from the junk. As a dentist and a team member, stay connected to people who are positive. Each practice that I have encountered in the last month is doing well. They’re working harder but they are doing well. My client in St. Petersburg emphatically said, “Laura, I hate to think where we would be without your help.” If you are reading this and you are worried, get help!!
So if we are blogging about comfort, consider this. Create a menu of comfort services for your patients. They love seeing you do new things. Have a menu printed (with your logo) and list the comfort services that you provide. Need ideas? Are you offering blankets, neck pillows, knee pillows, headphones, TV, movies, lip balm, bottled water? Take these items and list them. Laminate the list and ask your patients to make their selections. Photocopy the menu for your records and wipe the slate clean for the next patient. Of course, be sure to have the comfort amenities at the ready the next time your patient comes in.
My question is, who helps you relive great moments in your life, Elton John or Billy Joel? Maybe it’s neither. But the songs we loved when we were teens tend to give us comfort.
